Katriel Srebnik is a painter whose figures, interiors and European scenes explore light, atmosphere and expressive brushwork in pursuit of mood and ambience.
His distinctive approach brings together the spontaneity and immediacy of Impressionism, the visual reality of painterly naturalism and the poetic subtlety of Tonalism.
Srebnik's paintings, pastels and drawings have received 45 national awards, including a Silver Medal and five Awards of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America, the President's Award from the American Impressionist Society and First Place honors from the American Tonalist Society and the Texas Art Museum.
His work has appeared in nearly 80 national juried exhibitions and eight museum exhibitions, including the International Guild of Realism's Master Works Museum Tour. His work has also been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States, London and France.
Srebnik's background extends well beyond the studio. As an anatomy instructor, former principal dancer and ballet instructor, musician and former resident of France, he brings a distinctive understanding of movement, structure, rhythm and place to his figures, dancers and European street scenes.

THE PAINTINGS
The visual

musical.
Srebnik's experience in dance, music and anatomy informs the rhythm and structure of his compositions. Figures and spaces are approached not simply as subjects, but as arrangements of movement, atmosphere, harmony and light.
His European scenes draw upon his experience living in France, while his background as a principal dancer brings an intimate knowledge of gesture and the human form to his figurative work.
Through these influences, Srebnik creates paintings intended to move beyond literal representation toward something quieter and more elusive: an image transformed into mood, memory and poetry.
