THE ARTIST
A lifetime
spent seeing
the landscape.
For more than five decades, Morgan Samuel Price has devoted herself to landscape painting, bringing technical discipline, observation and a deeply personal response to the natural world to her work.
Her artistic education began remarkably early. At fifteen, Price began studying the disciplined brushwork of Sumi-e painting, developing an understanding of economy, gesture and precision that would continue to inform her practice.
She graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 1968 and began her professional career as an illustrator for Hallmark Cards. She later served as art director for the News Herald in Ohio before ultimately committing herself fully to fine art.
While living in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Price found herself in a community with few of the artistic institutions and resources typically available to working artists. Rather than allowing that absence to limit her practice, she helped cultivate a visual arts community of her own, encouraging others to begin painting and helping foster a flourishing local culture around art.
Over the course of her career, Price has participated in more than sixty national exhibitions and numerous plein air events throughout the United States, along with solo exhibitions of her work.

Price has often been described as “Florida's Painter,” reflecting her longstanding ability to capture the state's wild beauty, changing atmosphere and quieter corners.
Her landscapes are rooted in close observation but extend beyond simple documentation. They are shaped by decades of experience working directly from nature and by an understanding of how light, color, composition and gesture can create a sense of place.
Plein air painting has remained an important part of that practice, allowing Price to respond directly to rapidly changing conditions and the particular character of a landscape in a given moment.
The result is work that balances disciplined technique with immediacy — paintings informed equally by observation, experience and instinct.
